Tylar Hokanson, 22, of Northfield is facing murder charges in the death of his 18 month old stepson. The child apparently died of violence, and autopsy results showed healed injuries from past assaults. His 6 YEAR OLD daughter from "another relationship" had told family members about the beatings, but was ignored.
The case held all the necessary elements of the new American tragedy. Teen mom pops out a child from one guy, relationship(?) ends, quickly moves on to a new guy and winds up living with parents because her 22 year old "catch" is an unemployed bum who refuses to get up in the morning. Teen parenthood, casual relationships, lack of education and employment, serious life impacting commitments with people one barely knows? What better recipe for disaster is there? Great illustration of the fact that the corrosive effects of stupid life decisions, lack of expectations and self respect, and welfare dependence aren't limited to urban ghettos and people of color. It's all about lifestyle and values, not ethnicity.
Pretty pathetic when you need a scorecard to keep track of the Babydaddies, layabouts, and uninvestigated reports to child protection authorities...
