With 77 million Baby Boomers entering middle age and senior citizenship, states look hard at requiring testing to allow them to continue driving a car.
This has always been a problem, but now the scale has increased.
I agree with testing, and think it should probably be mandatory after a certain age. But make no mistake- it's an emotionally gut wrenching decision to take the car keys away from an incompetent senior driver. More than anything else, it represents their freedom and independence. When that's taken away, it's a powerful symbol that their life is over or ending soon, and they find it very depressing and angering.
