Post Aging Baby Boomers Face Testing To Stay On Road

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-07-05-older-drivers_N.htm

With 77 million Baby Boomers entering middle age and senior citizenship, states look hard at requiring testing to allow them to continue driving a car.

This has always been a problem, but now the scale has increased.

I agree with testing, and think it should probably be mandatory after a certain age. But make no mistake- it's an emotionally gut wrenching decision to take the car keys away from an incompetent senior driver. More than anything else, it represents their freedom and independence. When that's taken away, it's a powerful symbol that their life is over or ending soon, and they find it very depressing and angering.

My grandfather got re-tested for his drivers license late in his life. He couldn't see nothing for nothing. He was driving down the middle of the road, but the guy at the DMV felt sorry for him and renewed his license anyways.
