A Russian immigrant working for Goldman Sachs as a computer programmer was arrested in NJ for stealing the company's secret computer codes used in securities trading programs. The company expects to lose millions from the theft and fears competitors may gain illegal access to it. They also fear that malicious use of the codes could manipulate the securities markets.
Think about this next time someone suggests online voting. A conspiracy, or even a single rogue programmer, could turn around history. Pretty scary. Think "Iran" and "Mahmoud Ahmadinejad", only more sophisticated. Even fans of Al Franken need to recognize that without a paper trail to follow, albiet an imperfect one, he would not have been elected to the US Senate.
