Post Speech?
What is the best speech you have heard in person?

Mine was the commencement speech given by Joe Wyatt, the Chancellor of Vanderbilt University. The speech was very inspiring. At the end, he said, "Class of 1999, go now. Feel the wind on your face. And Godspeed!"

The "feel the wind on your face" was about making choices in life!

I don't recall ever hearing a speech that moved me much since I left Jr. High. With all the carefully crafted, rehearsed and groomed speakers in both politics and the private sector these days, I've grown cynical. I see through the carefully woven rhetoric and pretty words to the PURPOSE of the speech. More often than not, it's a simple sales pitch.

I've had enough sales. Even the endless Presidential speeches about good vs evil leave me cold because they are so dumbed down.

The last "speech" that really moved me was never spoken by any but actors.

This is my quest, to follow that star,
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far.
To fight for the right without question or pause.
To be willing to march into Hell for a Heavenly cause.
And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest.
