Post Child-Sex Abuse Charges Against Church Leaders
I heard this story on NPR today. It made me want to puke!

Quote:
Early next year, the first of several child-sexual abuse cases involving church leaders is expected to be heard in a courtroom in southwest Missouri. The sex charges were filed this summer by women who grew up in a religious community deep in the Ozarks. Most of the accusers and the accused are related by blood or marriage.

The five women who have pressed charges are all now adults. They attended Grand Valley Independent Baptist Church in Washburn, Mo. If what they say is true -- and that's still to be proven -- they were lured into sexual conduct by some of their church leaders when they were children, one as young as 8. -- FULL STORY HERE

The audio report was very graphic. One of the accused rapist's wife said she firmly believed in her husband. Do these rapiests ever have the fear that they would burn in hell someday?

This is a sad, tragic story. Anyone guilty of such things deserves their sentences in full.

However, NPR, The NY Times, the major network news groups, not to mention the local birdcage liners simply love to highlight the handful of cases of child sex abuse cases whenever the perps are church leaders.

What gets swept under the rug far too often, even though it's far more common and frequent, are the cases where TEACHERS are guilty of child sexual abuse.

After all, wouldn't want to tick off the NEA.

Yeah thats bad but today here in Minnesota it was reported on AM 1500 that more of our school teachers are being busted for molesting children, did you know that children are molested every day by teachers in our public school system.

Kathy Schilla couldn't understand why her daughter, a third-grader, didn't want to go to school anymore. After much coaxing, the child finally revealed what had happened to her at Lester Park Elementary School in Duluth, Minn.

Her teacher, Douglas J. Ranthum, had asked her to model her talent-show costume in the cloakroom during recess. He told her to remove her underwear because it showed through her costume, and then he repeatedly touched her breasts and buttocks.

Her horrified parents went immediately to the principal, who mentioned that two other parents had complained about the same thing several months earlier.

The principal at the Duluth school needs to be fired immediately, the teacher should be charged ( I haven't read the article yet) and any administrator privy to the charges should also be charged with child endangerment.

HOWEVER...in regard to the "everyone picks on Christian Church Leaders accused of abuse" whining, grow up.

When someone in a position of power, especially over not only someones emotional, but also their spiritual welfare abuses that power, they need to be dealt with swiftly and without mercy. This holds for ALL religions. And yes, ALL religions do sweep these things under the rug to keep a better public image.

Sad, but true.

db: did Monica (your current obsession?) ever claim she was coerced? forced? Frankly it's been long enough that I've forgotten.

Men (and women) cheat on their spouses, regardless of their social position. Can we please move past Bill Clinton and back to the subject at hand? (no pun intended)

Just like its ok for a female to have sex with a 17 year old boy, but if a republican congressman has sexuyal explicit email with a 17 year old hes a molester.

No, it is NOT okay in any case, but the charges do need to be proven...and the difference between child sex abuse and adults being harrassed is a bit different. Both should be prosecuted, but the children honestly cannot protect themselves.

Silly Willy's "victims" had enough strength to file lawsuits after he had enough money that it would be worth their effort. He may indeed have been guilty and should have been skinned and salted for it, but he was not abusing the truly helpless.
