Post Tomlin to Interview for Dolphins Job
Mike Tomlin, the Vikings' defensive coordinator, is set to interview for the head coaching job of the Miami Dolphins recently vacated by Nick Saban. Ouch! Despite their notable weaknesses against the pass, defense was clearly the bright spot for the 2006 Vikings. Hopefully the Wilfs will recognize the need to keep this rising star for a couple more years until he gets the inevitable nod to a higher position. But don't be surprised if he's gone. He's highly regarded, young, and fits the NFL mandate to diversify head coaching ranks. Considering that the Dolphins are in generally poor shape and will need several years of retooling, it's a low risk hire.

A low risk hire, but is it the best move for Tomlin? I suspect a fellow like him could land on a team with more promise, if he waited and didn't jump at the first opportunity available. Both Arizona and Pittsburgh are better spots to be, this year, than Miami...
