Post Airline Travel Line-Passers
There's nothing more frustrating than standing in a crowded airport in a long line of pissed-off, weary people. Effective use of the Internet and existing conveniences can save you a lot of time and frustration next time you travel.

1. Buy E Tickets online. Travel sites like Travelocity, Expedia, and the airlines' own websites can show you available routes and fares, allow you to select your seat, and sell you your ticket instantly.

2. Use Internet check in. Many airlines allow check in by Internet within 24 hours of departure where you can confirm your travel and print out a boarding pass, allowing you to bypass the regular check in desk and proceed directly to baggage check.

3. Use remote baggage check sites. Aside from the normal check in and baggage check desk, Northwest for example allows check in from a remote site in the basement of the terminal, curbside, and at E-Ticket kiosks in the main desk area. On several occasions I have entered the ticketing area and seen long discouraging lines, and stepped outside to the curb to see only a few people checking their bags.
