Post Golfer Michelle Wie- Huge Ego or Bad Advice?
17 year old golf phenom Michelle Wie fell flat on her face yesterday, shooting a 76 in the Sony Open and missing the cut by 14 strokes. Meanwhile, a 5'1" high school boy came out of nowhere to shoot a 66 and become the youngest qualifier in 50 years. While Wie has the physical build and talent to be a legendary professional golfer, she has repeatedly embarassed herself and women golfers by attempting to qualify for traditional men's events that she clearly is not prepared to be competitive in.

The biggest criticism of Wie is that despite obvious talent and potential, she has never won a women's pro event, and would be better off developing her skills on that circuit before attempting to cross over into male dominated events. Obviously Annika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa are much better golfers than Wie, and are far better positioned to make a credible run at a PGA event.

The real question to me is this: Is Wie a victim of delusional egomania? Or are the people behind her pushing her beyond her maturity and professional development for the simple greedy motive of cashing in on her while she's in the spotlight? It would be a terrible shame to see this great talent discouraged and destroyed just to make a quick buck for her entourage.

Go back to the LPGA, Michelle, and come back in a couple of years when you're seasoned and secure enough to show us what you've really got. The flashes of brilliance you've shown us are clearly worth cultivating patiently.
