 Black President?
From an interview with Chris Rock:
Life said, "In the first movie you directed, Head of State, you were president of the US. Is this country ready for an African American president?"
Chris Rock: " It's ready for a retarded president, why wouldn't it be ready for an African American president?"

Proof of that double-standard. Rock can call W a retard and not be criticized, but let Ann Coulter use the "other F-word" and she needs to be obliterated from the planet?
Nice standards, there, Dora...

Never said she needed to be "obliterated from the planet." Geez. Hyperbole, much?
And Chris Rock said this in an interview, not in a speech at a political convention for a specific party. If he had, I'd bet the Dems would distance themselves from this comment.
C'mon, Craig. Lighten up. Not everything in the world has to be us vs. them.

And where was this "lighten up" attitude toward someone you disagree with, my friend? Ann's comment was an attempt at humor - a tactless, unsuccessful one, but an attempt nonetheless.
Personally, I don't consider there to be much difference, other than which side is being nasty to the other.

Fine, fine, fine. Everyone's nasty.
I actually get a pretty big kick out of Ann Coulter, myself. I think she's actually an undercover liberal posing as a conservative, saying ludicrous and hateful things to discredit and undermine the whole right wing of the political spectrum. The more she talks, the worse they look. So, yeah, I'd say I have a pretty lighthearted attitude about her.

You have to admit, it's a rather "playground" atmosphere lately, between the right and the left.
"Faggot"
"Retard"
Can't we all just grow up and disagree like civilized adults? Like Dora and me, for the most part...

All politics aside (sort of) I am rather amazed that the painfully politically correct generation is so open and free in mocking the mentally handicapped, and that "retard" is once again an acceptable insult. For folks who are so painstakingly sensitive about people's feelings and respect, it's a sad regression, and further reinforces my belief that there is a substantial mean streak there.
I can see some rationale behind harsh caricatures of political/philosophical opponents, but to make fun of the helpless is about as low as one can go. And this comes from a huge fan of Chris Rock, one of the brightest and funniest comics around.

 Besides
George Bush isn't mentally retarded.
He killed the mentally retarded.
