Post Broccoli Stretcher
Most people tend to take broccoli and cut off the small flowering bunches, leaving the heavy stems behind. I usually do this too, because the stems tend to be tough, fiberous and woody when eaten. I've recently discovered that if you slice the stems across at about 1/8" intervals and cook or steam them, they're just as flavorful, tender and tasty as the small bunches. Give it a try. There's no sense in buying them by the pound and then throwing away most of it. Works great in soups, too.
