Post Men Prefer "Hot" Women, Per University Study
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/09/04/dating.mating.ap/index.html

Men prefer physically attractive women, according to an Indiana University study of 46 men and women in Munich, Germany.

I'm speechless. This is right up there with Sir Isaac Newton, Gregor Mendel, and Albert Einstein.

So glad they confirmed this. And so glad I don't pay taxes in Indiana, although they're still getting a chunk of my federal taxes.

This Just In: Homely women with bad breath and no tact are deemed unattractive!

The Society For Drinking Beer In The Garage And Blurting The Obvious has just completed a five-second study where one male asked himself: “Would I wanna hook-up with a dog of a gal sporting bad breath and no humor?”

After carefully weighing the evidence, the one-man panel decided to proclaim: “No.”

Plus-or-minus room for error: .01%

Cost to taxpayers: $0

Ya see, Padre, that's why this kind of thing needs to be handled by the professionals.

IF said homely, beer soaked maiden happens to be Brittany Spears, with locked in residuals and the outside possibility of future Medina Ballroom appearances, such a hookup might be considered a long term investment rather than a tacky brushoff without proper weighing of the pros and cons.

She blinded me with SCIENCE!

Post Sketchy to Me
This study hardly "proves" that men want hot women. First of all their study consisted of an extremely small sample in one location. Hard to make generalizations about the population as a whole. In addition, how much can one really get to know about a person in a speed dating situation? Chances are if you meet 20 different people in a matter of an hour or whatever the time constraints are, you'll be more likely to remember the most attractive ones. Interesting study regardless but definitely does not "prove" anything.

Sometimes we overthink such things, Brewski. The scientific method requires that we follow each step patiently and to the letter. And never, never read more into the question than is asked.

Where did you see anyone in the study asking about the men wanting to get to know these attractive women? From what I saw, they just said they wanted them. Which, if we read into it more, was probably subconsciously motivated by a noble desire to pass those attractive genes onto their offspring. But let's not go beyond the data.

My point was simply to take caution when reading "scientific" studies. It bothers me when the media takes studies such as these and makes them universal truths.
