I've been trying to book a trip to see family for some time, and have been put off by high air fares. Finally under pressure I got busy with it today. With the fares still high, I checked out Priceline in desperation. Long story short, I got a fare for under 7 days out for $200, which was listed on Travelocity at $360. Priceline said the lowest published fare for short notice was $1280. So I saved between $160 and $1080, depending on who you quote.
I'm a happy camper, and the flight connections and layovers were normal. One thing that had discouraged me was the possibility of being committed to an itinerary with weird flight times, multiple connections, or long layoevers. Didn't happen.
I'll do this again, when time isn't critical and I have flexibility in my travel dates. Worked great!
