Seems like common sense, but it was a revelation to me:

When spraypainting something, don't swing your arm at the elbow in the normal side to side arc. When you do that, the distance from your can to the object varies, giving you overspray on some parts and underspray on others. Better to move your hand and arm together horizontally, keeping the distance to the painted object steady.
