An interesting program sponsored by St Thomas University for single student moms. In a perfect world, all mothers in poverty would be enrolled in something resembling this- a formal education and job skill program, safe housing, advising, and required benchmarks for progress. Simply writing someone a check and walking away has been failing for the fifty years or more we've been doing it.
It makes sense to invest the greatest support in those who demonstrate they're really interested in changing their lives and making an effort. It's not a one-size-fits-all problem, and the solution isn't either.
