Picosa is a new restaurant on St. Anthony Main, in the space that used to belong to Sophia, next to Kikugawa. Mike and I tried it out last night, as we'd been ogling their happy hour specials online for some time.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are $1 taco nights. You get your choice of pork/beef/chicken/beans & rice, and they come in fresh, warm flour tortillas with just the meat and some pico de gallo. Extra toppings are $.50 each and include cheese, lettuce, cilantro, salsa, etc. I'd recommend picking a couple of toppings, otherwise the tacos are pretty bare-bones. But the quality of the chicken was high, and the tomatoes were fresh and juicy. These are not your standard $1 Taco Bell tortillas stuffed with dog food.

Tuesdays are also $5 Martini night. I tried one called "Ink" that turned out to be bright purple and tasted like its name. All the martinis seemed equally ill-advised from their descriptions on the menu. But you can also call your own martini with any concoction you'd like for the same price. That, methinks, would be the way to go. Otherwise, their happy hour goes from 4-7 every evening (Mon-Fri) and features 2-for-1 well drinks and wine.

Still feeling a bit peckish after my two chicken tacos, I ordered the delicious-sounding Tuna Salad: Tuna Crusted in stone ground cumin on mixed greens with cilantro vinegarette ($12). Unfortunately, our server forgot to enter the order, and as I had someplace to be, I never did get to taste it.

I'd like to go back here when I've got some more time to spend. Maybe on a Friday, when they have free salsa lessons at 9:00.

It was a gorgeous afternoon yesterday, and I was one of only three tables seated on their substantial sidewalk patio. Word must not be out yet about their great happy hour, and cheap, yummy tacos. When they iron out some of the just-opened bumps, I think this place will have a bright future. I'll be going back again.
