Interesting study of the economic and racial demographics of our US military. If the figures are accurate, it seems to utterly deflate the old saw that our war is being fought by a force that is overwhelmingly poor and non-white.

Wow. I wasn't going to go with "overwhelmingly poor" and I certainly wouldn't have gone with non-white. But I must admit my presumption of those who are fighting our war has been that the mainstay of our fighting force comes from poorer backgrounds. That's mainly from my rather limited experience though.

Given a methodology that includes using census tracts, what makes you think you were wrong that the "mainstay of our fighting force comes from poorer backgrounds"?

And black people seem to be over-represented among enlisted soldiers. That shouldn't surprise anyone.
