TCF Bank Forced Account Closing

Post TCF Bank Forced Account Closing
Went to an TCF branch to deposit a check the other day, but only to find out the account was closed by TCF a couple of weeks ago. The reason: there was no account activity for a while. They said if there is no transaction in 3 months, the account will be closed by the bank. If the remaining balance is less than $30, that balance goes toward the closing fee. I had about $26, so that was my closing fee.

I asked why they didn't alert me about the closing. I got the anwser that this rule was in their fine print. Had this account for over 5 years. This is a bad way to treat customers. A BIG thumb DOWN for TCF!

I refer to TCF as the "Evil Empire" based on their monopoly on U of M students when I attended school there.

I, too, had my account closed. I had transferred most of my financial activity to a different institution, but had, maybe $8 in my TCF account. Then, I moved, and forgot to change my address right away (but, with forwarding, thought I was OK), and apparently instead of forwarding my statement, the Post Office returned it to TCF, who determined that I had a "bad address" and closed my account, defaulting the $8 in it...which, they then informed me by mail to my new address that they got from the Post Office...huh?

So, I called and had this explained to me, and was also informed that my balance would be restored if I came into any TCF branch and re-opened my account.

I informed the phone representative that getting my $8 back wasn't worth doing any further business with them.

TCF is evil! Don't bank there!!!
