Hmmmm...as long as it's just making out or kissing a girl, well, at least that negates the usual fear of pregnancy...

Personally, I'm not tempted but I don't see the reason for all the fuss. It was a brilliant marketing ploy by the singer and her agent, though.

You know, I often think of Katherine Kersten as an uptight, idiotic saddlebag.

With this column, she actually held my agreement...for a while.

Look, no one is more opposed to this "heteroflexible" trend than I. And, I've been disgusted by men's obsession with lesbians for years.

But, to blame Internet porn is silly. It actually has nothing to do with porn of any kind. Just look at popular culture. The whole column was based on the influence a song has had on this phenomenon. So, to blame porn - or the Internet - is grasping for straws.

Pornography has been around for a long time and will continue to be a prescence. The only thing that has changed is the social attitudes toward issues of sexuality. People aren't as repressed as they used to be, which is mostly a good thing.

Now, many of these girls are kissing other girls to get attention from guys. But, let's not discredit the girls who are doing it because they want to and are trying to figure stuff out.

Just because sexuality is hard-wired doesn't mean you don't have some things to figure out when you're a young adult.

Don't really agree, NoMN. Yes, porn has been around forever in different forms, but it used to be a secret vice viewed in curtained booths and stored in plain brown wrappers. Men knew that women would consider them degenerates if they were caught with hardcore porn, so it wasn't something done openly. Now viewing porn films together is quite common, and from what I hear, if young ladies don't go along with the game, they're considered prudes or repressed. To include, apparently, acting out what's on the screen.

Call it sexual liberation if you like. I personally think it's the age old strategy of young men doing whatever's necessary to get where they want to go. If that includes using pop psychology to get insecure young women to wonder if they're abnormal when they resist doing things that they find repulsive, that's just one more tool in the box to get the job done.

Really? Huh. That's news to me. But, I'm not really in tune to what the "kids" are doing these days.

I like porn. But I don't watch it with people (well, unless they ask). And I don't ask them to act it out.

And, I'll agree to disagree on porn in general, but I won't budge on my point about the Internet. There may be easier access to porn because of the Internet, but that doesn't mean that it's being used in a different way.

I'm sure your point's correct re: the Internet, NoMN. I would generally consider that to be a solo activity. I've seen some homemade party videos on the Net, with drunken, awkward amateurs as the performers, and it was pretty clear that somebody got the bright idea to get a couple of ginned up college girls and act out what some creep saw in a real porn movie.

On a related note, what's up with letting a "significant other" film you performing sexually? I.E. Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, etc. Can't imagine that they bought the line that it was somehow a romantic bit of nostagia that they would share later. They must have been in some pretty extreme denial to think that it would remain private, too.

This is something on which we definitely agree. Who is so vain as to film themselves to begin with? And what about that is romantic or nostalgic? Gives me the creeps.
