The ACLU has sued the Federal government for cancelling the top secret security clearance of an Egyptian born nuclear scientist who worked on sensitive nuclear weapons materials. Background investigations and interviews suggested views sympathetic to radical Islamic activities.
What a ridiculous lawsuit. People are denied security clearances every day, often for minor infractions or questionable associations. Police officers can lose their jobs for stealing a pack of gum from a drugstore. We should fully expect the federal government to err on the side of caution when they're giving people access to weapons that can literally destroy the world.
If this guy were an Irish Catholic expressing ambivalence about bombings performed by the IRA, he wouldn't be getting a Top Secret clearance either.
