The family of John Berg, who died after an apparent overdose of illegal drugs in the Hennepin County workhouse, has sued the county for negligence.
Their grief and anger are understandable, but their action is irrational.
Is the county responsible because criminals outsmarted them to smuggle illegal drugs into the jailhouse? It's an ongoing game of cat and mouse between guards and visitors, who have been allowed to see inmates on a compassionate basis. That problem could be solved immediately- by cutting off visitation.
And by the way, how did John Berg wind up back in jail? From the story, it sounds like he got there by abusing drugs again.
At your house.
Mourn your son in peace. Don't blame society for his actions.
