Watch the video and draw your own conclusions, before reading the reporter's comments or anyone else's comments on the situation. I describe this situation as "Black guy attacks white guy, white guy defends himself, black guy doesn't do so well."
"Fight between Elderly White Man, Younger Black Man Started with Remark about Shoe-Shining"
I would say the
fight started with the black guy throwing a punch.
So words are exchanged.
The older (almost 70) guy goes to the front of the bus.
The black guy follows him up there. Black guy throws the first punch. Then white guy gets down to business.
No harm, no foul. Happy Black History Month.

After several minutes of back-and-forth yelling, the older man moves to the front of the bus, though the argument continues. Eventually, the younger man follows him.
"I guess he hit him across the face once," Washington said. "And then the white guy stands up and lets loose."

Oakland bus riders seem ever at the ready to grab and search throw their fellow riders' belongings, too - whenever a distracting fight presents the opportunity...
Video shows Washington grabbing the older man's bag and carrying it to the back of the bus while somebody says, "Go through that."
