Because we've become a nation of obese gluttons?
But in a time where we clearly see rising obesity and the increase in chronic illnesses related to it (i.e. Type 2 diabetes, etc) skyrocketing, why do restaurants continue to promote gluttony? Why wouldn't they cater to the marketplace? Given that restaurants don't have to pay for the illnesses cau...

I can understand
not allowing a guy who's attracted to other guys to be a boy scout leader. I wouldn't want a straight guy to be a girl scout leader when the girls reach puberty. Sexual attraction is one of the most powerful forces in nature and the temptations may be overwhelming. Why take the chance? The rewards d...

In context, his remarks weren't that bad
He also talked about the Muslim cabdriver being attacked and said O'Reilly's inflammatory comments on The View could lead to more violence against Muslims. Hard to know where to draw the line. If he'd said he feels a visceral revulsion when he sees two gay guys being affectionate, that might be hone...

US taxpayers probably fund more jihad
than British Muslims do. According to a recent article, a lot of the contractors we pay in Afghanistan have to bribe the Taliban to fulfill their contracts. One Afghan woman we paid $200,000 to deliver laptops to soldiers had her shipment grabbed by the Taliban and she paid $150,000 to get it back. ...

Stupid PP headline
She wasn't "disgraced." Apparently she followed the tournament guidelines instead of some obscure DNR regulation. It's unconscionable for the tournament director to now claim that even though he got it wrong, she was obligated to ignore him and get it right. If he had any honor and integrity, he'd p...

Isn't the whole point of terrorism to enable a small minority to force the majority to bend to their will by means of violence? If they had the popular support to get their views turned into law and policy, they'd simply use the ballot box. Yes, and your point is . . . ? There may be a handful of c...

Misses the point
If the number of extremists is 10% or 5% or 2.5% or 1%, they're still vastly outnumbered by the number of Muslims who aren't extremists, so why do Sullivan (and others) portray the extremists' version of Islam as representative of the majority? Amanpour is nobody's fool. The notion that she invited ...

It'll be interesting to see
what black turnout is. After Obama was elected, one black woman interviewed was happy because she said it meant she no longer had to worry about paying rent. If she's emblematic of the expectations of the black community, the disappointment must be enormous and palpable.

Interesting that Sullivan quantifies
the dichotomy between Islamic fundies and moderates as "millions and millions" vs "thousands." Seems to me if the billion-plus Muslims on the planet were divided in those porportions, we'd be seeing a lot more Muslim jihadists perpetrating bloody mayhem.

Actually, I was talking about Jewish influence
wielded by an American religious minority whose allegiance to Israel is often at odds with American interests. The parallels to the Somali community are obvious. They take what they can get from this country to further the interests of another. It wasn't in America's best interests to help create Is...

Really?
Those sentiments are expressed frequently and publicly by members of our local Muslim population. I've somehow missed those. Some of the Somalis I've talked to consider their former homeland a shxthole (their word) they're well rid of. The 'tude of religious superiority grates but it's hardly uniqu...

Screw that so-called wall separating church and state! Who cares if legal precedent is against you? Onward Christian soldiers, marching off to war with the IRS. God is on your side! (And by extension, on the side of the candidates you endorse.) What could possibly go wrong? My CPA brother had a run-...

The Strib had an article on this too
and the author blamed the economy for the Church's financial woes. Funny no mention was made of financial impact of the settlements paid to the victims of pedophile priests.
