A pedestrian who confronted a driver in a St. Paul crosswalk Thursday fell victim to an assault.
The 30-year-old man was crossing Selby Avenue at Lexington Parkway and saw a new crossover vehicle blocking the crosswalk and pedestrian traffic, said officer John Keating, St. Paul police spokesman.
Police were called at 4:48 p.m.
The man told police he knocked on the driver's window and yelled at the driver that he was blocking the crosswalk. He said the driver then got out of the vehicle and chased him a short distance, Keating said.
The driver punched the pedestrian in the head while he was running, knocking him to the ground. He punched him several more times when he was on the ground, Keating said.
The driver returned to his vehicle, which he'd left running with children inside, and left. There were four or five girls in the vehicle, estimated to range in age from 7 to 11.
Might be interesting to hear what the punched pedestrian actually said to the guy. Some of these militant "bike and walk" folks think they have an unlimited right to flame the operators of fossil fuel earth killers.
Crime - the media loves it, people fear it, and criminals get away with it!
