Midwest Tomato Fest

College students propose festival in Stillwater centered around massive tomato tossing fight at the end.

Don't want to be too PC about this, but is anyone else uncomfortable with the idea of deliberately wasting massive quantities of edible food for the sheer joy of making a mess?

Aye, I am. Given that we grow mostly corn in this country, wasting precious other produce is...well, a waste.

I note in rereading the article that the produce in question was beyond freshness date, but there's a cure for that too, by using them for some kind of processed food before they hit that date. Surely there's a soup kitchen or somebody out there who could use some free tomato soup, etc.
