US At Crossroads As Global Cops

Post by thrice » Sun Nov 28, 2010 12:12 pm ... index.html

Article posts arguments for and against US involvement in stabilization and nation building in a number of nations in chaos.

Assuming we aren't going to bring home all US military personnel any year soon, what would you say are the top 3 regions we should have a military presence in and what are the objectives of those deployments?

Secure the Canadian and Mexican border. Secure Alaska and Hawaii.

Secure our shipping ports.

Secure our airports. Get rid of homeland security and transfer those duties to the Department of Defense.

Replace the Coast Guard with Navy ships and sailors.

Secure the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Samoa, Guam, etc.

Provide security for critical infrastructure - power plants, dams, water treatment.

Bring almost all the troops home. Enough time spent drinking beer in Germany and raping school girls in Osaka.

Reduce the military to the level needed to directly protect our borders, our infrastructure, and our territories. Anyone wishing to become a new territory should submit their proposal in writing along with a non-refundable $1 billion dollar application fee.
