They want too much money.

How about $1 a box, 100 box minimum? At least as a starting bid.

The action at the Anoka-Hennepin schools book auction has been slower than a dull novel.

In fact, as of Thursday afternoon, it was nonexistent.

"The last time I checked, we had no bids so far," said Barbara Theirl, school district manager of media services.

And that was 10 days into the online auction -- an innovative effort to find new homes for 17,000 library books that were left over after the district closed five elementary schools last year. The sale is scheduled to end Tuesday, though it might be extended.

Up for bid are 800 boxes of books, 12 to 30 books per box, with a minimum bid of $5 per box. Right now, they're piled up on shelves or shrink-wrapped in towering stacks in the empty media center of the former Champlin Elementary School.

I would pay top dollar for Saxon math books for the sole purpose of burning them.
